varada-mudrā: gesture of the gift
The right hand is open and drooping, palm facing the viewer, fingers extended.
This gesture characterizes the gift, the welcome, the offering; the downward opening shows that the Buddha keeps nothing locked up in his hand and that everything in it can spread to the world.
In addition to the Śākyamuni buddha, it is also found in the buddha of the past Krakuccandra, in the Jina Ratnasambhava, in the bodhisattva Mañjuśrī as well as in the Tārā and the medicine Buddha Bhaiṣajyaguru.
Very nice single piece, made in India.
