dhyāna-mudra or samādhi-mudrā: gesture of meditation or concentration
The two hands are placed one on the other, palms up, fingers elongated, they rest on the legs of the characters sitting.
This gesture is characteristic of two periods of meditation during Śākyamuni's life: during his period of extreme fasting and under the tree of bodhi before his awakening; this gesture is also attributed to Buddha Amitābha and, occasionally, to Bodhisattva Mañjuśrī as well as Buddha of Medicine Bhaiṣajyaguru.Geste teaching, setting in motion the wheel of the law.
Very beautiful unique piece, made in India.
